"Call today, and order Muse now!" - Billy.
Our recent assignment deals with selling an upcoming product by Adobe codenamed Muse. Our goal is to get people interested, motivated enough to consider purchasing the product upon release. We discussed "pitching" a possible campaign idea to the client,  persuade them to believe this possible campaign will make the company/client revenue.
The first person who came to my mind was none other than the god of pitch men, Billy Mays. He can sell anything to anybody and make it seem like its the best product you have every witnessed. He could possibly pitch the weakest possible ad campaign to a company and make it seem like its the best.

John Coy shared important information about what it is like to be a designer. Judging from his speech he gave at the GAUGE speaker event, he seems like a very relax and calm. What I grabbed my attention the most is his experience at the AIGA portfolio day. When looking at portfolios he wants to see who can contribute the most in a specific area  in his studio. Whether it is a person who is really skilled with typography, package design, or any other area related to design. The point he was trying to make was we should strive to do one thing really well. Try to be the best at a specific area of design and do it really well.
He also talked about finding what sets you apart from the rest. What do you do better than anyone else. What makes you unique. Due to the fact design is a very broad topic with multiple areas of expertise its hard for some to stick with a specific area.

The work he presented was good, nothing spectacular or mind blowing. I found most of it boring and old. I guess he was not lying about having trouble learning the software, after seeing his < 1.5gb ppt file , he is not too familiar with computers/tech.

In order to sell a product there needs to be a target audience. The quickest way for an advertiser to sell their product is to have a popular face promote their product. I believe when advertisers place a familiar face on their product, in this case Kobe with vitamin water, it creates a desire for customers to purchase the product. There are countless advertisement campaigns which use celebrities to sell their products, Michael Jordan and Hanes, Shaq and Icy Hot.
It is almost guaranteed the reason behind the purchase of the product is JUST because it has a celebrities face attached to it. Regardless of the brand of the product or quality, what drives the products sales is the celebrity.
It amazes me what power these people have, they can sell almost anything for any company because of their high status in society.

I found the posters for the up coming X-Men movie to be funny. They look poorly designed by someone with no design education. They do not appeal to the audience. Its a step backwards when you compare them to the posters of the previous X-Men movies. I reminds me of Krang.

Advertisement is a part of our daily lives. Everywhere we go its there and can not be ignored. It can get repetitive on certain medias such as TV and the internet. Each company's marketing department has spent countless hours coming up with smart ideas to advertise their products. Each product is targeted towards a specific audience which is more than likely their primary consumer.
